Attack of the BLOG! "Front Line of Freedom"

Wooooah! It will take a while for me to fully digest this past week. I am still trying to figure it all out- the things I've seen, the words I've heard, the pride I've felt. I have never been more proud to be Canadian- and that says a lot.

My trip to Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates was 'intense' to say the least. So much so, that I have vowed to try using the word 'intense' as little as possible from here on in. I used it much too freely in the past- Day in and day out, the men and women of the Canadian forces are prepared, heart in hand, to make peace. What a beautiful thing. This is not a peace keeping mission, it is a peace MAKING mission. It is so easy to feel so far removed from the war going on out there- and I was smacked in the face with the reality of it- and, furthermore, blessed by every minute of my experience.

I have been truly inspired in a way that I've never been before. How lucky am I, how lucky are WE to live in a country where people are willing to defend us, protect us, and make change in this world, in Afghanistan, where war has been so prevalent for generations; yet never dampening the spirit of the people. The Afghan people are not the problem- the Taliban is the problem. Simple to say- hard to understand. But it's real. More real than I ever imagined. More real than I wanted to believe. Our Canadian Forces are not just fighting against the Taliban, they are building a country up from the ashes. Changing the mindset of children who were raised with rifles, raised by parents who know only how to fight- sometimes not knowing what they're even fighting for. We are working with the Afghan government, encouraging stability while recognizing and supporting our cultural differences. It is not just about 'war' - it is more a mission of love, the love of peace- and how every person, every citizen of Afghanistan deserves to live in a land of peace and prosperity.

I am thankful for the True North, the Strong, and the Free.

I am thankful that THAT is what we wish for, and are working towards in Afghanistan- that they may also be a land of the FREE.

For Freedom,

Theo

Leaving on a JET plane...to Afghanistan...

To: You

The scariest moments in life are the moments you walk into knowing that when you walk out you'll be changed. Completely. They're hard because you have to accept that there is an absolute sense of the unknown. This coming week will be just such a moment. For me anyway.

I am flying to Afghanistan tonight- piano in hand- to bring a small piece of home to the hundreds of men and women who are in service to our amazing Country. To bring music to them is such a small thing that I as a singer/songwriter can offer.

Although I can't tell you much more than I already have- be assured in the fact that you will hear (and see in pics and video) all about my unbelievable experience when I return next week.

I am so honoured to have been invited by the Canadian Forces to offer even the smallest sense of home, and Canada, to our troops...

Oh Canada, We Stand On Guard For Thee!

All my love- Dreaming Hard.

Attack of the BLOG! Calm RIGHT Down...

To: You

I am lucky to be alive. I learned this over the weekend. Sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in the triviality of such small things- things we think are so stressful. It's hard sometimes to separate ourselves from OURSELVES and take a step back and ask, "is this really worth getting upset over, does it really warrant all this stress?" Most of the time the answer- at least for me- is NO!

The Relay for Life event I just participated in was incredible- watching people light their candles for loved ones- family, friends, heroes- was such a beautiful moment that I am so proud to have been a part of

Lots of amazing things coming up over the next couple of weeks. I have been writing a lot- so a second record seems to be in the works- which I am sooo excited for! I have been playing around a lot with different types of instrumentation and sounds- just diving into the creative aspect of my life again which feels incredible. Sometimes it seems a little bit inaccessible so the days that it is natural and organic are always a blessing.

I'm also taking my music overseas at the end of the month! It's be the first time I cross the pond with music in hand and heart- and it'll be an amazing experience. Definitely lots more to tell you in the next week or so.

My best friend Melissa will be in Toronto for the next couple of weeks. I always love having my support group so close- it lets me get my crazy side out. Believe me. I have one :)

All my love- dreaming hard always

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you who made it out to last nights show- you were an incredible audience I have to say! Such a blessing to be able to play for people who appreciate and mold themselves to live music- I am truly thankful and blessed by you. Thanks to all of you who stuck around after the show to give your words of encouragement- you keep me constantly inspired and driven to keep doing what I'm doing daily. If you came to the show- I'd love to hear your thoughts- you can write a review on the show last night on my website! Doooo it! ;)

It was awesome to be able to share a couple of new songs with you. Being able to open yourself up completely is sometimes a scary thing to do but being welcomed and accepted with such open arms and vulnerable hearts is something I will never take for granted. For those of you who weren't able to make it last night (you missed out! :) ) but here is the youtube links to my 2 new songs!

I'm heading home to Alberta in a couple weeks to do a Relay For Life charity concert in Lethbridge so it'll be nice to be able to catch up with some friends over the 3days I'm home- a quick stop- but I'm excited. The next couple weeks will be spent writing more- ofcourse!- and prepping for some summer shows with some new exciting instrumentation ideas! Stay tuned.

Manhattan Blue video this week! AHHHH!

Stay tuned my friends,

Theo

all the things you said...

So this is the last weekend before my show at Hugh's Room with Sara Kamin and Jeffery Straker- really hope all of you in and around the Toronto area will be able to make it Tuesday night- it's going to be an amazing show with tons of great music! I'm going to be debuting a couple of new songs I've written and I am so stoked to hear what you all think of them. For those of you who can't make the show- I'm sure you'll be able to view video on youtube!

This weekend I plan on catching up on some RnR- I feel like the visit with my family was amazing, but tiring. It's time to read a few good books and write a bunch of new things again. I have so many ideas- now I just have to learn to take the time to harness them and follow them all through. I should also vacuum- and that is by far my least favorite thing- blech- such is life when you have a dog that sheds like crazy...

The video of Manhattan Blue should drop sometime next week- I am so excited for you all to see it- I know it's been a bit of a wait! Hopefully the wait was worth it right?

Be safe this long weekend- have a blast!

Take a little time to Dream Hard.

Attack of the BLOG! A Place For Everything

To: You

Sometimes I have absolutely no idea what to write. What to say. How to act. How to pray. So I just sit here in the quiet, in the stillness- awkward as it may seem, hoping that some form on inspiration will fly by. Not quite fast enough though- so I still have time to latch on and make it mine.

Sometimes I have absolutely no idea what to do. How to feel. What to choose. So I just walk- one foot in front of the other- with a dream so it seems.

Sometimes I lose. Keys. Wallet. Mind. Self. I lose. But I haven't lost. I refuse to have lost.

Just saying.
